Media Linguistic Commission under the International Committee of Slavists together with St. Petersburg State University ("Higher School of Journalism and Mass Communication" Institute) invite you to take part in the 2nd International Scientific Conference “LANGUAGE IN THE COORDINATES OF THE MASS MEDIA”, which will be held in Saint Petersburg at 2-6 July, 2017.

The conference is a part of the International Forum “Russian Language in Global Media Landscape”

The conference is aimed at: building a dialogue between Russian and foreign academics and practitioners in the field of media linguistics; facilitating further development of journalistic education; stimulating interuniversity and international academic and professional network.

Main thematic fields for discussion

The conference focuses on current state and perspectives of the research, dedicated to the functioning of the language in mass media. We offer the following questions to discuss:

• Media text: structure, composition, innovative trends

• Language and it’s functions in the media

• Linguistic of publicistic text

• Speech parameters of political media discourse

• Language in PR and Advertising

• Esthetics of media speech

• Application of media linguistic

Panel discussions and round tables will be organized based on the abovementioned topics. The organizing committee is open for suggestions by leading researchers for additional topics and issues for discussion within their framework.

Working program of the conference:

July 2, Sunday - Arrival and registration of conferees

July 3, Monday - Opening of a conference, panel discussions, round tables

July 4, Tuesday - Panel discussions, round tables

July 5, Wednesday - Panel discussions, round tables

July 6, Thursday - Closing of the conference

The accommodation of participants is planned from the organizing committee in St.Petersburg State University hostels in Peterhof, at the same time the issue of accommodation can be resolved by the participant independently.

Conference languages: Russian, English and Slavic languages.

By the end of the conference a collection of papers (ISSN, RSCI) is to be published (by September 30th, 2017) and a special issue of the journal “Media Linguistics’’ is going to be prepared (№ 4, 2017, № 1, 2018) (RSCI and ERIH).

To participate in the conference please send an application form to the organizing committee (rech@jf.pu.ru) before May 1st, 2017. In the application form all information about the speaker (surname, given name, patronymic, science degree, academic credential, place of work, position held, contacts, topic of the speech, form of participation) and annotation of the speech (2-3 sentences) must be included.

The papers (the materials of the speech) must be prepared before the beginning of the conference (deadline: July 1st 2017).

Organizing committee reserves the right to decline application forms, that do not comply with the thematic fields of the conference or that are not meet the requirements.

Arrangement fee for the participants from Russia and Belarus: 1000 rubles. Arrangement fee for other countries: 25 €.
