“Speech practice in mass media”: the results of seminar at Moscow State University

Seminar “Speech practice in mass media” took place on 19 March 2014. It was organized by initiative of Medialinguistic Commission under the International Slavist Committee. Area for seminar was given by Moscow State University within the framework of the V International congress of Russian language researchers “Russian language: historical destinies and the present” functioning.

Initiator of the seminar was L. Duskaeva (St. Petersburg State University, Russia), habilitation doctor of philology, head of Media Linguistic Commission. She appealed to the public with the opening speech and said that medialinguistics was active developing direction of stylistics and it isn’t accidentally, because language of mass media quick responded to society’s necessities, reflected language sense of epoch, first of all underwent changes.

Many scientists from Russia and neighboring countries were invented to take part at the seminar. The session was rich and interesting. Many reports caused discussion. It was because of the purpose of most reports to present a problem but results of investigation.

Professor M. Konushkevich (Grodno University, Belarus) shared her reflection about the subject of media stylistics. Professor L. Duskaeva(Saint-Petersburg State University, Russia) told about main categories and approaches in media speech study. Professor L. Kaida’s (Complutense University, Spain) report was devoted to text’s and media text’s intermediality. Animated discussion followed after reports made by professor O. Osetrova (Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University, Russia) “Expert’s role in media’s representation”, professor V. Konkov (Saint-Petersburg State University, Russia) “Media’s speech practice at category of performative aspect” and professor M. Kormilitsyna (Saratov State University, Russia) “Modern media’s language: intellectualization or primitivization”. Senior lecturer E. Kara-Murza (Moscow State University? Moscow) gave a talk about media linguistics at projection of linguistics expert’s practice. Saint-Petersburg State University lecturers shared their observations of media speech: senior lecturer T. Redkina (report “Content and intention criterion as a tool of text’s typology”), professor N. Tcvetova (report “Speech’s subject as media stylistics category”), N. Kornilova (report “Phatic’s expression in media”).

All seminar participants decided that the intercourse was very fruitful.
